Insurance is a very important matter for everybody travelling by motorcycle. We feel therefore, that it is important that you clearly understand matters and set out the relevant information below.

1. Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

All EagleRider packages include a basic insurance for which the amount of cover varies from State to State. We strongly recommend that you give very serious consideration to taking the optional SLI as this increases your Liability Insurance Benefit up to US$1million. This insurance protects the renter against claims made by a Third Party for bodily injury and/or property damage sustained as a result of an accident. The cost of this optional cover is US$25 per day but we have included it automatically in each quotation.

Note: if you do not wish to avail of SLI, please advise us in writing and we will remove it from your costing.

2. EVIP Insurance

This policy is applicable to the motorcycle ONLY. It limits the liability of the renter:

  • in the event of any and all accidental damage to the motorcycle and its accessories.
  • the loss/theft of the vehicle provided the motorcycle was locked with all locks provided by the rental company.
  • in the event of mechanical breakdown requiring repair for more than 12 hours, the renter is provide with up to $75/day for a replacement rental + refund of daily rate.
  • covers the cost of tire repair/labour, but towing is NOT covered.
  • A Security Deposit of $300 will be taken upon collection of the motorcycle

IMPORTANT: A police report is required for all damages or accidents. All damages to rented motorcycle without a police report is considered the Renter’s fault.

3. Personal Travel Insurance

Your travel insurance policy must include repatriation to Ireland of patients by Air Ambulance or other medically approved means of transportation where it is deemed as preferable by the Medical Adviser of the Insurance Underwriters.

Please check closely the terms of cover provided by any travel insurance policy that you are offered or already hold. In our experience, most policies only provide cover for motorcycles up to 125cc which is not sufficient as most motorcycle models in use on the EagleRider tours range between 1200cc and 1800cc.

Celtic Horizon Tours will be happy to assist in obtaining quotations for suitable travel insurance cover should you require our assistance in this matter.

FAQ

How many people are in a group?

We allow a maximum of 15 bikes per group. At rare occasions there can be a few more bikes but if the number exceeds 15 we may add a second tour guide on a motorcycle to the group.

Will I receive some kind of information about my tour before I arrive?

A road book for each specific tour will be sent to you via email as a pdf file; the book contains all important and necessary information about your tour, route, general information, etc.

Will there be enough photo stops on a guided tour?

While one just likes to ride and is hardly to be kept off his bike another may want to stop every five minutes to get this very special photo shot. We try to find a good average of stops to accommodate everyone’s needs.

Can I book additional nights before or after the tour through Celtic Horizon Tours?

Yes, we are happy to book additional accommodation before or after the tour for you. Please be aware that once an additional reservation has been made any changes or cancellation will result in a €50 handling fee per occurrence. Reservations for additional nights must be made at time of booking.

What is the weather going to be like?

If you’ve all been good the weather will be too…honestly, we can never be certain; this is one factor on our tours that we still haven’t been able to influence. In general you can say that during mid summer months you have a 90% chance of staying dry and hot weather on any of our tours. It’ll always be a little cool along the west coast and you can always expect some rain along Route 66. Please come prepared, bring your raingear and a variety of clothing to be armed for all weather conditions.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

For your own safety we require you to wear a helmet at all times when you ride a motorcycle.

Do all bikes have a windshield?

The only models that are equipped with a windshield are Electra GlideRoad GlideRoad King and Heritage SoftailGoldwing, and BMW. Especially during mid summer you will face very hot temperatures on your rides. A windshield will not only hold off dust and stones but also keep away direct hot air to your body.

IMPORTANT

  • If a person decides to travel without any travel insurance cover, they do so explicitly at their own risk, against our advice, and are deemed to absolve Celtic Horizon Tours Ltd, its employees, agents, suppliers and various affiliates of all and any responsibility and/or liability.
  • The prices shown are subject to flight availability and are in respect of 2 pax + 1 bike sharing a twin / double room. Prices are also available on request for 2 pax + 2 bikes sharing a twin / double room, or 1 pax + 1 bike staying in a single room.

Itinerary

General Information

No of touring days: 14 days
No of nights in package: 13 nights

Please note you arrive back in Ireland the day after the last day of the tour.

DAY 1 Cairns - Arrival 0.0 mi / 0.0 km

Welcome to Salt Lake City, an oasis for adventure lovers that is surrounded by some of the most picturesque mountains in the USA. We always recommend arriving a day or two early, especially for those joining us from overseas, so be sure to let us know if you need to arrange a pre-tour hotel night or two. The group will meet at the hotel for a quick orientation and introductions before heading out for our first meal together, compliments of EagleRider and your Tour Guides.

DAY 2 – Salt Lake City to Moab National Park - 235 mi/376 km

We will get an early start today, as we have some miles to burn, and we want to ensure plenty of time for breaks and photos. Like most metropolitan areas, we must run a few miles of interstate to lose the city in our side mirrors, but it doesn’t take long for us to start feeling what riding in Utah is all about once we pick up the local motorcycle favorites, Hwy 189, and Hwy 6, heading south towards Moab. We’ve got a great lunch stop planned, then we’ll make the final scenic push into Moab. Depending on our arrival time, we’ll plan a short hike to one of our favorite viewpoints tonight, early in the morning, or both. Moab is a special place with stunning views, and we are looking forward to sharing our favorite spots with the group.

DAY 3 - Moab to Vernal, Colorado - 205 mi/328 km

Early risers will want to take in the sunrise over Moab with a cup of coffee on the patio or a hike to one of the many monuments inside the park. Once we hit the road today, it’s straight on to Scenic Byway 128, which meanders for miles through red rock canyons along the banks of the Colorado River. Lunch today is in the oddly named town of Dinosaur. Well, oddly named until you realize it sits just outside Dinosaur National Monument, home to the Fossil Quarry, where you’ll stand in front of an actual dig site a view more than 1,500 fossilized dinosaur bones from the late Jurassic Period. Our overnight is in the small town of Vernal.

DAY 4 – Vernal to Jackson, Wyoming - 285 mi/456 km

Off we go from dinosaurs to Flaming Gorges! Ok, the gorge isn’t literally on fire, but it takes its name from the vibrant red colors that make up the walls of this deep gorge that has been cut by the Colorado River. Take some time after booking this tour to look at some images of Flaming Gorge and the bridge that spans it, and you’ll be looking forward to Day 4 as one of the highlights. The rest of the day is spent making our way to Jackson via the jaw-dropping scenery of the Grand Tetons. Jackson, also known as Jackson Hole, is a wild mix of ritz, cowboys and ski bums, and is also home to one of the coolest bars in the USA. And to answer your question, of course we are going there tonight!

DAY 5 - Jackson to Yellowstone National Park - 125 mi/200 km

This is about the time in writing the daily descriptions for tours that we start to sound like a broken record, but it’s for a good reason; each day seems to be more incredible than the one before. Then you are sitting around dinner at night, saying “no way tomorrow can be better,” then it is! Well, today is no exception to that rule, and the ride from Jackson, through Grand Teton National Park and into Yellowstone is something that should be on every bucket list. We will spend two nights in Yellowstone, giving us plenty of time to explore on our own, or with the planned group excursions. We even set up a river rafting trip for those looking for some adventure on the water.

DAY 6 - Yellowstone National Park Free Day - 0 mi/0 km

Today is a day to relax or take an adventure out on your own to enjoy Yellowstone, like hiking or join a photography tour. It’s your day, and you’re in Yellowstone National Park, so go wild!

DAY 7 - Yellowstone to Billings, Montana - 230 mi/368 km

Routes today vary depending on weather and road construction that always happens in Montana during the short summer season. Whichever route we end up on will be spectacular, as we run along rivers, through lush, wild valleys, and almost within arms reach of spectacular mountain peaks. There are ski towns like Big Sky, old railroad towns like Livingston, logging camps like Big Timber, and everything in between. The scenery is spectacular, the people are warm and inviting, and the food is about as western as it gets. We’ve got a couple of fun places to hit in Billings tonight so be ready!

DAY 8 - Billings to Deadwood, South Dakota - 290 mi/464 km

This is one of our longest riding days, but the stretch between Billings and Deadwood is wide open and forgiving. This is Little House on the Prairie meets Wild Hogs, with our group of riders from around world rumbling along vast stretches of open land, through small, inviting towns, and headed towards a few days in one of the most famous cities from the Old West; Deadwood, South Dakota. Deadwood looks a little different than it did during the mining boom of the 1800s and early 1900s, but it still feels very “old west,” and there is a deep connection to the history that made this town famous just around every corner. Deadwood will be our home for a few days while we take in some truly incredible day rides, and even make the short ride over to Sturgis to see what that town looks like when it’s not hosting a million bikes every August.

Day 9 -Deadwood, South Dakota - 0 mi/0 km

You’ve got the option of exploring on your own or with the group today. Our group ride will be an awesome trip to Mt. Rushmore, Custer, and Crazy Horse. It won’t take long to realize why this area is so popular with riders. Tonight, we’ve got a bit of a pub crawl planned to have some fun together.

Day 10 - Deadwood, South Dakota - 0 mi/0 km

Once again, you’ve got the option to explore on your own, relax, or join the group for a short, but fun ride through Spearfish Canyon and Bridal Veil Falls. From there, it’s a quick ride to Downtown Sturgis for lunch and a walk around town, before rolling back to Deadwood for the night.

Day 11 - Deadwood Adventure Day - 0 mi/0 km

Our final day in Deadwood is filled with options. As always, you can do your own thing. You’ve also got the option of joining one of our Guides on a ride to Badlands National Park, which is the closest most of us will ever come to riding on Mars. There is also an opportunity to enjoy and off-road adventure, do some shooting at a nearby range, or just kick back and enjoy the incredible scenery of South Dakota before we head for Cheyenne tomorrow. Tonight, it’s more of the same. We are pretty much Deadwood locals by now, so…you know where you can find everybody for happy hour!

Day 12 - Deadwood to Cheyenne, Wyoming - 275 mi/440 km

One of our last riding days happens to be our second longest, but much like the ride from Billings to Deadwood, it’s wide open and a very easy cruise. We hit a few stops along the way, but the real attraction today is the famous western town of Cheyenne, topic of many a country song, and a mecca for rodeo-lovers from around the world. We try to time our tours to ensure the rodeo is running, but even if we miss it, there’s plenty to see, do, eat, and drink in what has become one of our favorite stops on any tour.

Day 13 - Cheyenne to Denver, Colorado - 200 mi/320 km

Yeah, we could take the direct route home and make this a 100-mile ride, but how can we be this close to Rocky Mountain National Park, and one of the most spectacular motorcycle roads in the country? Our riding altitude will peak at just over 11,000 ft. today, and if we don’t see at least ten deer, elk, or other wildlife today, the first drink is on the Tour Guides tonight! We sincerely can’t think of a better finish to this epic journey together than with some high-fives and group photos near the top of the Rockies, and it makes the final push through Denver to return our bikes a much easier pill to swallow. You will be surprised how hard it is to say goodbye to your new friends tonight at the farewell dinner, many of whom you will stay in touch with for the rest of lives. The Farewell Dinner is also where many of you will start planning your next tour together with your Guide Team, EagleRider, and the great friends you have made.

Day 14 - Denver - Departure - 0 mi/0 km

Please be sure to let us know if you would like some extra time to explore Denver. We set up an extended rental on your bike, a self-guided tour, or simply extend your hotel reservation and point you in the direction of a great rental car. Whatever you choose, we can’t thank you enough for allowing our team to be a part of what was surely a bucket list level adventure.
